The rules, in short
What happens at the live audition?
Each act has up to five minutes. You bring your own instruments, costumes, props and backing tracks unless we've agreed otherwise. Backing tracks go in as WAV files before the technical deadline in your invitation. Setup and pack-down time is limited. Only registered performers and approved support people can go backstage.
Can I use fire, liquids or confetti?
Open flames, weapons, liquids, confetti and hazardous materials need written approval from us before you perform. Ask early.
What kind of act is suitable?
It has to suit a family-friendly, multicultural audience. Discriminatory, offensive, sexually explicit or culturally disrespectful material isn't allowed. You also need permission to use any music, choreography, costumes and props in your act. We may ask you to shorten or change an act for safety, timing or production reasons.
How are finalists judged?
At the Grand Final, judges look at talent and technical skill, stage presence and confidence, originality and creativity, entertainment value, and storytelling and cultural connection. The judges' decision is final. Individual scores and comments may stay confidential.
What about photos, video and media?
Auditions may be photographed and filmed for event coverage and promotion. Selected performers sign a media release and participation agreement, and performers under 18 need a parent or guardian's signature. Selected performers may also be asked to take part in interviews, photos, rehearsals and promotional activities. Please don't announce your selection before we do.
What are the prizes?
The winner can win up to $5,000 worth of prizes. Full prize details will be announced closer to the event.
Will I get feedback if I'm not selected?
We get a lot of entries, so we may not be able to give individual feedback. If you don't reply or turn up when invited, your place may go to another performer.
How do we expect performers to behave?
Treat organisers, judges, volunteers, technical staff and other performers with respect, and follow all safety, venue and production instructions. Bullying, harassment, threats and damage to the venue won't be tolerated. We can disqualify an act for misconduct, false information, rule breaches or unsafe behaviour.
